This winter math project will have your students practicing real-world math applications while having a BLAST! This math project based learning task (PBL) is a great extension and enrichment activity for your early finishers. It allows them to plan a vacation for a snowman! They must make several decisions about the trip, practicing several common core math standards along the way. Students will love getting to plan out a fun tropical vacation for their snowman and YOU will love the enriched math practice they get along the way. 

This pack would be a great activity for enriching second graders, perfect for third graders, and even a great review for upper grades!

⭐ HERE ARE THE TASKS STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE:

•Choosing a Destination: Students will look at a survey and data about different destinations. They will graph the data and answer questions about it, while making an informed decision about the best destination for Sammy. (Differentiated graphs available).

•Setting a Budget: Students help Sammy budget his money for traveling, accommodations, activities and meals. Students use addition and subtraction to work with the numbers. (Differentiated - teachers can provide different budgets to different students)

•Vacation Shopping: Students use addition/subtraction within 1,000 to purchase new vacation clothes for the snowman (Differentiated sheet available: addition/subtraction within 100).

•Sammy's Schedule: Students create a schedule of meals and fun activities for the two days Sammy is on vacation. Students will practice elapsed time. (Differentiated sheets available - time in 15 minute increments or 5 minute increments)

•The Beach Shop: Sammy met some new friends shopping at the Beach Shop and they need some help counting coins and making decisions about what to buy. Students will count coins on task cards, and answer challenging questions about what shoppers can buy.

•The US Road Trip: Sammy had a great trip and wants students to help him plan a road trip across the US! Students will use an inch ruler to measure the distance between cities on the map. Differentiated sheets will allow students to convert measurements to miles, and challenge some students with figuring out the time it will take to travel.
