Teacher's Summer Reading List 2021

Teachers, you have MADE it through the 2020-2021 school year!

Summer break is ahead of you…hopefully that means no alarms, some time by the pool, and lots of resting and recharging after a very hard school year.

Summertime for me has always meant catching up on some reading. Reading is something I love, but have always struggled to find time for during the school year. But to me, there I nothing better than reading a good back at the pool or the beach. I’ve compiled a summer reading list for you full of some of my latest favorites, followed by a few that are in my own “To Be Read” pile!

BOOKS I’VE READ AND LOVED:

I read this one last summer, and decvoured it in about two days. It’s a novel, but is based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals, of which I’d never heard of before. Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country. The novel follows the story of a group of siblings who were ripped away from their family and thrown into an orphanage, and the dark truths that come out. It’s a heartbreaking read, but I absolutely could not put this book down!

The Dutch House: A Novel
By Patchett, Ann

I read this earlier this year, and the story just captivates you and pulls you right in! The Dutch House follows the deep-rooted bond between two siblings, their childhood home, and a shared complicated past. The story spans the course of five decades, and you’ll love following their relationship through the years.

The Nightingale: A Novel
By Hannah, Kristin

If you haven’t read this book yet, you’ve probably at least heard about it – and I will happily tell you that it lives up to the hype. A historical novel set during World War II, The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, as different as can be, who each embark on their own dangerous paths. They struggle to survive, find love, and make a difference in a German-occupied, war-torn France. I sobbed while finishing this book, but flew through it in a matter of days. It is absolutely worth a spot on your summer reading list!

Beach Read
By Henry, Emily

Recommended to me by my friend, Stephanie Sutherland (as lots of my favorite books have been), Beach Read is a fun romance novel that has a few added layers to it. It follows two writers in a small town, who are polar opposites, and the story unfolds as they strike an interesting deal together. This is the perfect pool or (go figure) beach read, in my opinion.

Open Book
By Simpson, Jessica

If you’re looking for a book that will take you by surprise – this is it. Jessica Simpson’s memoir was never on my must read list, but after hearing a lot of hype about it from trusted friends, I dove in. And y’all, it is SO GOOD! It’s real and raw, and presents an intimate look at her struggles. It’s also laugh-out-loud funny at some parts. This is another one you’ll fly through!

My Summer Reading List:

These are a few of the books I have queued up for my Kindle this summer – I’d love to know if you’ve read any of these and what you thought! These are all books I’ve seen recommended by numerous women, and I’m excited to find time to dive into these.

Professional Development Books:

I also have a few professional development books I’m really excited about reading this summer.

I’m really excited to delve into these teaching books - if you’ve been around my space for any length of time, you know I’m all about making math engaging with hands-on projects, so I can’t wait to learn from these!

What’s on your reading list this summer?!
