Telling Time Hands-On Activities

I love teaching time! It feels more practical to the students. Yes, they need to learn how to regroup to help them with their math in future grades. But Telling Time and Money are two units where they can see the usefulness of it right then and there, especially with these hands-on telling time activities. You can work their telling time skills into so many real-world activities, which is fun.

Plus, you never have to answer the question, “How much longer until lunch?” ever again! Now, they can look at your schedule, look at the clock, and figure it out. That right there is a pretty big teacher win!

Today, I’m sharing a round up of some of my favorite time activities! If you’re looking to add to your resource collection this year, I have a variety of differentiated, hands-on, engaging, and rigorous activities for your classroom. You can find each of these products in my TPT store.

Tropical Time

This activity pack is filled to the brim with fun, hands-on math activities and crafts! All are centered around a ‘tropical’ theme, making for some great bulletin board work, or small group games!

Telling Time Bingo

This simple bingo game allows your students to practice matching analog and digital time! All of the materials are printable, so it works well as a center or small group game!

Telling Time Journal Prompts and Choice Board

I have these journal prompts for every math unit you can teach in 2nd grade. These journal prompts can be projected or printed and cut out for students to glue in math notebooks. They practice each of the Common Core Math Standards for the unit, ensuring that your students are writing about their thinking through every lesson you teach! Print and cut them out at the beginning of a new unit, and have them ready to go as a great warm-up at the beginning of each math block!

I also have choice boards for every 2nd grade domain! These choice boards make great early finisher activities, center work, or even could be sent home as homework during that teaching unit. The possibilities are endless, and the prep is super minimal!

I hope this list gave you some fresh ideas for how you can help your students master time this year! You can click the button below to see all of the resources I have in my store! Happy teaching, everyone!
