How to build a classroom community over the SUMMER in just one hour!

Some teachers are Camp Do NO School Work over the summer, and others actually love getting things ready for the next year. Either one is GREAT, there is no right or wrong way to “do” Summer vacation!

I will openly admit I have always loved doing some school prep over the summer. Things are relaxed, I’m not writing lesson plans, pouring over IEPs, or stressing about grading. For me, summertime is my favorite time to think ahead to next school year and get a head start on certain things.

But...let me tell you one easy thing you can do over the summer to get your students ready for next school year.

Hint: it involves no summer packets or reading logs. 

Imagine having students who are already excited to meet you and dreaming about the next school year. They’ve already got a positive feeling about coming to your classroom in August or September, and their parents feel the same. What teacher wouldn’t want that, right?!

Here’s how: send a postcard. That’s it - a simple postcard. Students will love getting their own mail from their new teacher. It’s a great way to quickly say hello, and tell them how excited you are to meet them and have them in your class. This is a task that can be done in an hour and will set you up for an amazing year!
